Can you describe your relationship and perception of bees prior to your engagement with the Sanctuary?
Very little, just some simple awareness of their role as pollinator in the ecosystem and how their existence has recently been under stress.
How has your perspective or understanding of bees evolved after having the opportunity to observe and interact with them more closely?
I’ve began to regard them as a source of healing and inspiration, showing us their devotion and dedication.
What aspect of being close to bees has struck you as the most remarkable or awe-inspiring?
Selfless service and devotion.
In what ways have you seen the presence of bees positively impact the Amara Valley community and environment?
The Bee garden has been a place to slow down. The gatherings we have done there have felt beautiful and attentive. Their presence has been felt in our 2 latest festivals. Great inspiration!
Can you share your observations on how the community and visitors have responded to and engaged with the bees at the Sanctuary?
I’ve seen people become more calm and emotional while entering the Bee Garden. It seems to inspire people and expand their understanding of the importance of bees in our environment.
How have the roles of Silvestres and Maria been instrumental in shaping the Bee Sanctuary and its impact?
Tremendously! Maria has guided us in every single steps of making this happen, with so much love and grace.
You decided not to wear a suit and serve the bees by Maria's side. What motivated you to have a more direct encounter with the bees, and how did that experience unfold for you?
It just felt natural, I didn’t really think about it. The calm presence of Maria made me trust and I felt empowered by not needing to “protect” myself from the bees.
During your second experience, you got a sting in your nose, very close to the third eye. Can you describe your immediate and longer-term reactions to receiving the bee sting?
My immediate reaction was quite brisk as I got scared. But I calmly walked away and relaxed, I was fine. I was later able to recognize the bite as a gift for healing, a medicine, and felt that the stung was a reminder to relax my face.
Would you be willing to have a similarly close encounter with the bees again, and why?
Yes, because I feel that it expanded my capacity to be present.
What's one of the most significant insights or lessons
you've gained about bees and their wisdom?
To clarify what is my role in the great mystery of life and work selflessly towards it.
How would you summarize your current relationship and connection with bees in a single sentence?
The bees hold a net of trust and confidence in my life, their presence awakens my devotion.
